UX/UI Designer

Full-time role in our Charlottesville office

Journey Group is seeking a full-time product designer with experience creating interfaces for web applications.

We are looking for a digital designer with expertise in typography, color, and responsive grid systems to design flexible interfaces in our application studio. Responsibilities include overseeing the planning, design, and extension of interface libraries for the 6–10 custom web applications we produce on behalf of our non-profit partners.

Hours: 32–40 hours/week. Preferred schedule: In the office 9 a.m.–5 p.m., four or five days per week. There is some flexibility in hours for the ideal candidate.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Role

The product designer will provide interface design for all projects undertaken by Journey Group's application studio. 

Areas of focus: Understanding requirements; generating sketches and wireframes; active participation in all meetings and presentations; attendance and participation in weekly design critique; collaboration with colleagues both within the studio and across studios—ultimately ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, on budget, with creative and technical excellence.

The ideal candidate will identify and champion best practices within each project, transferring universal insights across all digital products.

Responsibilities

Product designer responsibilities include:

  • Understanding functional specification for the web applications we design and support
  • Creating relevant diagrams and schematic designs to convey key information architecture and interactions to clients and colleagues
  • Effectively extending brand systems to meet accessibility requirements for digital products
  • Developing comprehensive interfaces and libraries in Figma
  • Presenting visual design to clients and resolving feedback in multiple rounds of iteration
  • Daily collaboration with web developers
  • Coordination with the studio manager to ensure effective use of time

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Expertise in Figma and similar UI/UX tools
  • Demonstrated ability to express distinctive interface style for multiple digital products
  • Capacity for system design and creating and maintaining scalable and modular solutions
  • Attention to detail and ability to quickly shift direction
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Familiarity with front-end development
